  • Mike Fagan has earned praise from Protein Mechanics, a small biotech software company, for his work in generating derivative code for protein-ligand interaction simulations.

  • A CAAM team has been awarded first place in the SIAM Hundred-dollar, Hundred-digit Challenge. The team consisting of graduate students Eric Dussaud, Chris Husband, Hoang Nguyen, and Dan Reynolds, and postdoc Christiaan Stolk successfully solved ten numerical problems each to ten decimal places.   • Steven Cox has been recognized with the George R. Brown Award for Superior Teaching. This is the third time in four years that he has received this award, having previously been recognized in 1999 and in 2001.

  • Richard Tapia has been named a 2002 inductee into the Texas Science Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame is a tribute to the "giants" who shape the world through their innovative use of science and engineering. Tapia was recognized for his work in increasing minority graduate students in engineering.

  • Liliana Borcea was given the award for Outstanding Paper by a Young Presenter in Signal Processing at the 142nd Meeting of the Acoustical Society of America (ASA) for her presentation, "Imaging in Random Media." Presentation scores were based on several factors including originality, problem definition, method, interpretation of results, effectiveness of figures, clarity, organization, and handling of questions.
