GENERAL INFORMATION:


CAMPUS PARKING:

Driving directions to Rice University.

Visitor parking on the Rice campus is limited. Please see the parking & shuttle map for details.

The visitor parking closest to Duncan Hall is near campus entrance 2 (can also be reached from campus entrance 1). This is a paid visitor lot. The charge is $1/20min with a $9/day maximum. Free parking is available near the stadium, campus entrance 13. Shuttles run between the Greenbriar visitor lot and Duncan Hall.

Conference attendees staying at the Best Western, please pre-arrange for shuttle service to campus with the hotel at time of check in


DINING:

During the conference, continental breakfast will be served in Martel Hall (Duncan Hall Lobby); lunch will be served in DH3092.

For other meals, Houston offers a huge selection of restaurants. There are restaurants in the Rice Village just east of Rice University, approx. 1.5 miles from Duncan Hall.

For those who come early or stay longer, there are many things to do. Below are a few examples.

Rice University, the conference hotels, the Museum District, Downtown (where baseball stadium, basketball arena, and the Houston Theater District are located) and Reliant Stadium are connected via Houston's METRORail.

  • Around Rice University:
    - The southern end of the Houston Museum District is just 1 mile north of Rice University.
    - Hermann Park and the Houston Zoo are located east of Rice University, less than 1 mile away.


  • Theater and music:
    - Check out the Houston Theater District for theater, ballet, opera, symphony and musicals.


  • Shopping:
    - The Galleria and Rice Village.


  • Sports:
    - There are no home games scheduled for any of the Houston sports team during the week of the conference.


  • Within one hour driving:
    - If you are interested in bird watching or like to see alligators in the wild, check out the Brazos Bend State Park (Elm Lake), which is about 1.5 hours southwest of Houston (take US59 south, after about an 1hr there will be a sign to mark the Brazos Bend State Park exit).
    - The Johnson Space Center Houston is about 1 hour south of Houston (take Interstate 45 toward Galveston).
