Ensure that the department staff provides effective and efficient support for the research and educational programs of the department.
Ensure department's compliance with university policies and procedures.
Manage department's internal, external, restricted and unrestricted funding (currently in excess of
$3.5 million).
Ensure that external funds are spent within research guidelines and in an appropriate manner and assist researchers in keeping track of contract deliverables.
Prepare grant budgets for faculty and assist them in preparation and submittal of proposals to funding agencies and coordinate with administrators at granting agencies.
Review research contracts prior to signature by the department chair.
Conduct financial analyses, forecasting and projections for grants and contracts and advise project directors of impending overage and recommend course of action.
Handle responsibilities of long-range planning and budgeting for the department chair.
Prepare or approve all payroll and personnel documents including new appointments, subsequent re-appointments, and terminations.
Supervise preparation of dossiers for new faculty hires and for the promotion and tenure of current junior faculty.
Evaluate productivity of the staff to identify problems and devise procedures for solutions.
Share with department chair the responsibility for hiring support staff, including preparing job descriptions, screening and interviewing applicants.
Monitor space allocation and report on space usage.
