• January 2024: Jonathan Cangelosi presents his work on Simultaneous Design and Trajectory Optimization for Boosted Hypersonic Glide Vehicles (joint work with J. T. Needels, J. J. Alonso (both Stanford University) and M. Heinkenschloss) at the 2024 AIAA Science and Technology Forum and Exposition (AIAA SciTech Forum). • December 2023: Alejandro Diaz presents a research poster on nonlinear-manifold reduced order models with domain decomposition (joint work with Dr. Youngsoo Choi and Matthias Heinkenschloss) at the NeurIPS 2023 workshop on Machine Learning and the Physical Sciences. • December 2023: Alejandro Diaz presents a research poster at the Mathematical Opportunities in Digital Twins (MATH-DT) Workshop at George Mason University.

• November 2023: Jonathan Cangelosi, Alejandro Diaz, Dane Grundvig, Anwar Khaddaj,and John Steinman present their research at the 6th Annual Meeting of the SIAM Texas-Louisiana Section (TXLA23).

• October 13, 2023: First annual RTG NASC Workshop. See the Events page on Research Training Group in Numerical Mathematics & Scientific Computing (NASC) and this Rice News article.

• May 2023: The National Science Foundation awarded an RTG grant to Beatrice Riviere, Jesse Chan, and Matthias Heinkenschloss to fund their Research Training Group in Numerical Mathematics & Scientific Computing (NASC) This RTG trains the next generation of scientists in NASC and its applications, preparing researchers in computational and applied mathematics for both industry and academic careers.

• May 2023: Nathaniel Kroeger defended his PhD thesis ADMM Based Methods for Time-Domain Decomposition Formulations of Optimal Control Problems. He will start his position as postdoc with Prof.~M.~Kimmel (Stat, Rice University) working on Biostatistics for Cancer Research in August. Congratulations, Nathaniel.

• February 2023: Alejandro Diaz, Dane Grundvig, and Matthias Heinkenschloss present their research at the SIAM Conference on Computational Science and Engineering (CSE23).

  Dane Grundvig defended his MA Thesis Line-Search Based Optimization using Function Approximations with Tunable Accuracy. Congratulations, Dane.

  Matthias Heinkenschloss and Georg Stadler co-organize the Workshop Optimization and Inversion under Uncertainty during the RICAM Special Semester on Optimization at the Johann Radon Institute for Computational and Applied Mathematics (RICAM), an institute of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, in Linz, Austria.

• April 2019: Congratulations to Nathaniel Kroeger who has been awarded an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship, and to Mae Markowski who has earned an Honorable Mention in the 2019 NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP).

  Matthias Heinkenschloss gives presentation at the Workshop on Challenges in Optimal Control of Nonlinear PDE-Systems April 8-14, at the Oberwolfach Research Institute for Mathematics, at the SIAM Conference on Uncertainty Quantification (UQ18) (where he is also a member of the Organizing Committee), April 8-14, and as Distinguished Speaker at The Third Central Valley Regional SIAM Student Chapter Conference, UC Merced, April 27.

• January 2018: Timur Takhtaganov moves on to a Postdoc Fellowship in the Computational Research Division, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.

• August 2017: Timur Takhtaganov graduates. Dr. Timur Takhtaganov will stay on as a Research Scientist until the end of this year.
  Matthias Heinkenschloss gives presentation at the London Mathematical Society - EPSRC Durham Symposium Model Order Reduction.

• May 2017: Xiaodi Deng and Caleb Magruder graduate. Dr. Xiaodi Deng joins Quantlab in Houston, and Dr. Caleb Magruder joins the Department of Mathematics at Tufts University as a Norbert Wiener Assistant Professor.
