Math 324E Autumn 2005

Instructor:  Kirk Blazek
Class meets Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 1:30 to 2:20 in the Chemistry Library room 15.
Office hours: Tuesday Noon - 1pm, Friday 8am - 9am or by appointment.

The Final
I have posted the final exam. It is the corrected version, fixing the couple of typos encountered during the test. Solutions are available too. If you email me asking for your grade, I will email you to let you know how you did. The average on the test was 46 out of 70, and the median was 48. These are similar in percentages to the numbers from the first test, maybe a little higher. Standard deviation was 16.8. You can change all these things to be out of 100 if you so desire.

The breakdown of the grades is 20% for homework, 20% for each exam, and 40% for the final. The lowest homework grade will be dropped from that average.

Homework
Homework will be assigned throughout the week, but picked up on Friday. Generally the assignment will cover material up through Monday so you will have at least a couple of days on a section before it is to be turned in. The homework is graded out of twenty points. Four problems are graded at four points each, and the last four points are for completion of the assignment.

Exams
There will be two fifty-minute exams during the quarter, one on October 21st and the other on November 18th. You are not allowed to use notes or your book during the exams. You are not allowed to use a graphing calculator on the exams, but a non-graphing scientific calculator is acceptable.

Final
The final will be held in our usual classroom on December 12th from 2:30-4:20pm. The same rules as exams apply here. See below in the homework table to see the sheet of formulas that will be included in the test.
