Below is a list of some of the events my students and postdocs have been involved with, since 2009.

2013

  • April 2013: Jun Tan successfully defends her Master thesis.
  • March 2013: Joey Huchette is a recipient of the NSF Graduate Fellowship. He will join graduate school at MIT in the Fall.
  • March 2013: Jizhou Li successfully defends his Master thesis and Ph.D. proposal.
  • March 2013: Jizhou Li and Xin Yang give conference talks at the combined Finite Element Rodeo and Finite Element Circus in Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge.
  • January 2013: Xin Yang gives a conference talk at the Joint Mathematics Meetings in San Diego.

    • 2012

  • The Finite Element Rodeo took place at Rice on March 2-3 2012. There were 100 participants and 37 talks. The rodeo was dedicated to Professor Graham Carey. In 2013, the Finite Element Rodeo will be held at Louisiana State University.

  • December 2012: Kun Liu successfully defends his Ph.D. dissertation.
  • November 2012: Kun Liu is the recipient of Shell fellowship for the 2012/2013 academic year.
  • October 2012: Jizhou Li gives a conference talk in the Finite Element Circus conference, University of Pittsburgh.
  • October 2012: Kun Liu and Jizhou Li are selected to represent CAAM in the Screech event.
  • September 2012: Xin Yang was the only CAAM graduate student presenting her research at the third annual SA-GSA mixer at Rice. Thank you, Xin!
  • August 2012: Joey Huchette's research has appeared in a reviewed paper at SIAM Undergraduate Research Online.
  • Summer 2012: Jizhou Li visits the University of Stuttgart.
  • Summer 2012: Xin Yang has a Summer internship with ExxonMobil.
  • Summer 2012: Joey Huchette has a Summer internship with DOE.
  • April 2012: Jizhou Li gives a research talk in the Graduate Student Seminar.
  • March 2012: Shirin Sardar gives a conference talk at the 36th SIAM Southeastern-Atlantic section annual conference, University of Alabama in Hunstville.
  • March 2012: Shirin Sardar gives a research talk in the Graduate Student Seminar.
  • February 2012: Shirin Sardar and Jizhou give research talks in the Finite Element Rodeo.
  • February 2012: Xin Yang and Kun Liu present posters in the Oil and Gas HPC workshop.
  • February 2012: Kun Liu successfully defends his Ph.D. proposal.

  • November 2011: Kun Liu gives a research talk in the Graduate Student Seminar.
  • November 2011: Shirin Sardar successfully defends her M.A. thesis.
  • September 2011: Jennifer Young gave a talk at the ECCOMAS Thematic Conference: Simulation and Modeling in Biological Flows, Vrije Universiteit Brussel.
  • September 2011: Shirin Sardar is an Ahura Scholarship recipient.
  • August 2011: Xin Yang successfully defends her M.A. thesis and Ph.D. proposal.
  • August 2011: Shirin Sardar attends the workshop "Mathematical modeling in industry XV" at IMA. She is fully supported by IMA.
  • Summer 2011: Kun Liu completes a Summer internship at BP.
  • June 2011: Xin Yang, Shirin Sardar, Joey Huchette give lectures to high school students in the Summer Math Days program.
  • April 2011: Toni Tullius successfully defends her M.A. thesis.
  • February 2011: Jennifer Young, Kun Liu, Xin Yang, Sevtap Ozisik present their work at the Finite Element Rodeo, Texas A&M.
  • February 2011: Kun Liu and Sevtap Ozisik give talks in the Scientific Computing and Numerical Analysis seminar.
  • January 2011: Shirin Sardar gives a talk in the Scientific Computing and Numerical Analysis seminar.

  • November 2010: Xin Yang gives a talk in the graduate student seminar.

  • June 2010: Kun Liu is fully supported by IMA to attend the IMA New Directions Short Course on New Mathematical Models in Economics and Finance, Minnesota.
  • May 2010: Kun Liu successfully defends his M.A. thesis.
  • April 2010: Prince Chidyagwai successfully defends his Ph.D. dissertation. Prince will join the department of Mathematics at Temple University as a postdoctoral fellow starting July 2010. Congratulations to Dr. Chidyagwai!
  • April 2010: Toni Tullius gives a talk in the Scientific Computing and Numerical Analysis seminar.
  • April 2010: Aycil Cesmelioglu successfully defends her Ph.D. dissertation. Aycil will join the IMA as a postdoctoral fellow starting Fall 2010. Congratulations to Dr. Cesmelioglu!
  • April 2010: Christina Ho successfully defends her M.A. thesis.

  • January 2010: Both Aycil Cesmelioglu and Prince Chidyagwai are recipients of travel awards to attend the Joint Mathematics Meetings in San Francisco. Both gave talks on their research at the conference.

  • February 2009: Prince Chidyagwai is the recipient of a SIAM travel award to attend the SIAM Geosciences conference in Germany, June 2009.
  • February 2009: Aycil Cesmelioglu is the recipient of an AWM travel award to participate in the AWM workshop at the SIAM Annual Meeting, Denver, July 2009.
