Job Description - Sr. Department Administrator
Ensures that the department staff provides effective and efficient support for the research and educational programs of the department.
Ensures department's compliance with university policies and procedures.
Manages department's internal, external, restricted and unrestricted funding.
Ensures that external funds are spent within research guidelines and in an appropriate manner and assists researchers in keeping track of contract deliverables.
Prepares grant budgets for faculty and assists them in preparation and submittal of proposals to funding agencies and coordinates with administrators at granting agencies.
Reviews research contracts prior to signature by the department chair.
Conducts financial analyses, forecasting and projections for grants and contracts and advises project directors of impending overage and recommends course of action.
Handles responsibilities of long-range planning and budgeting for the department chair.
Prepares or approves all payroll and personnel documents including new appointments, subsequent re-appointments, and terminations.
Supervises preparation of dossiers for new faculty hires and for the promotion and tenure of current junior faculty.
Evaluates productivity of the staff to identify problems and devise procedures for solutions.
Shares with department chair the responsibility for hiring support staff, including preparation of job descriptions, and screening and interviewing of applicants.
Monitors space allocation and report on space usage.
