Biosketch

I am a professor in the department of Computational Applied Mathematics and Operations Research at Rice University, starting in January, 2022. I am a member of the Ken Kennedy Institute at Rice. I am a member of the Center for Computational Finance and Economic Systems (CoFES) external advisory board.

Before joining Rice, I was a professor in the Harold and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering at Penn State University, where I was also a Professor in Mathematics by courtesy, and affiliated with Institute for Computational and Data Sciences. I was a Full Professor (July 2020-December 2021), an Associate Professor (July 2016-June 2020) and an Assistant Professor (August 2010-June 2016) at Penn State.

I received my Ph.D. in Operations Research at Columbia University in 2010. My advisor was Professor Ward Whitt. I have had a broad education background in mathematics and operations research, as well as in economics, business management and industrial engineering.

My research interests are in applied probability, stochastic process limit theory, stochastic control, stochastic stability, stochastic networks, queueing systems and epidemic models. I work with applications in service systems, healthcare, energy systems, telecommunications and epidemiology. I also have broad interests in financial engineering (econometrics), simulation and numerical methods.

My research has been funded by National Science Foundation (CMMI and DMS Applied Mathematics), and Army Research Office (Probability and Statistics Program).

I am currently serving as an associate editor in Queueing Systems (1/2014-present), Stochastic Systems (1/2020-present), Stochastic Models (4/2019-present) and SIAM Journal on Control and Optimization (1/2024-present).

I was a council member of INFORMS Applied Probability Society (11/2016-11/2018), INFORMS Applied Probability Cluster Co-Chair (2017) and on the Program Committee for ACM Sigmetrics (2018-2019, 2020-2021).

I am an active member of INFORMS, Applied Probability Society, Institute of Mathematical Statistics, Bernoulli Society and SIAM.

I am one of the local organizers for the Seminar on Stochastic Process 2024, hosted at Rice University on March 13-16, 2024: ssp2024.rice.edu

I am co-organizing a conference on "Spatial Epidemic Models (including Graphs and Graphons)" with Raphael Forien and Etienne Pardoux, to be held at the Rice Global Paris Center on May 29-31, 2024. https://sites.google.com/rice.edu/rgp-epidemic
